Reinforced Polypropylene Camlock Quick-Connect Fittings

Camlock fittings, also called cam and groove couplings, allow a hose to be quickly connected to and disconnected from a fixed installation or another hose. They are used to connect tanks, valves and transfer lines without unscrewing the threaded connection each time.

We offer glass-reinforced polypropylene Camlock adapters and couplers in sizes ranging from 1/2 to 4 inches, depending on the configuration. The range includes male and female NPT threaded connections, hose barbs, elbows and caps.

Male or Female Camlock: Identify Both Parts

The male Camlock has a cylindrical end with an external groove. It fits into the female Camlock coupler, identified by its two cam arms. The locking mechanism holds the parts together, while the gasket inside the female coupler provides the seal.

Keep in mind that “male” or “female” can refer to two different ends of the same fitting. A female Camlock fitting may have a male NPT thread at its other end. Identify both connections before choosing.

Camlock Fitting Types A, B, C, D, E and F

The letter identifies the combination of ends. It does not replace checking the size, material and operating conditions.

Start by selecting matching male and female Camlock connections. The other ends are then selected according to the installation: threaded piping, valve or hose.

Choose the Connection for Your Installation

On a Tank or Valve

A female NPT bulkhead fitting accepts a male NPT threaded end. Then select the Camlock end according to the part being connected.

With a ball valve, check the actual available connection. A valve with a male Camlock outlet directly accepts a matching female Camlock coupler.

For an IBC tote, identify the valve outlet first. Buttress and NPT outlets require different accessories from a Camlock outlet. See our IBC tote parts and adapters. All IBC totes sold by Agrico Plastiques have a valve with a male Camlock outlet.

On a Hose with a Barbed Connection

Types C and E have a barb that fits inside a hose. Check that it matches the hose’s inside diameter and select appropriate hose clamps.

The Camlock allows the two quick-connect parts to be disconnected. It does not replace securing the hose to the barb.

Hose selection also depends on its function: liquid transfer and suction or discharge. If the hose already has a threaded connection, select a Camlock with the matching thread instead.

To Change Direction or Cap a Connection

A female Camlock to female NPT elbow changes the connection direction.

A female Camlock cap fits over a male end. It must not be confused with a threaded cap or a shut-off valve.

Material, Gasket and Operating Conditions

The female couplers offered have EPDM gaskets and stainless steel cam arms and pins. Check the compatibility of the polypropylene and gasket with the liquid, its concentration and its temperature.

Allowable pressure depends on the fitting and temperature. Parts that fit together are not necessarily suitable for the intended pressure or suction application. Check the complete assembly: fittings, gaskets, hose and equipment.

These criteria apply across different tank applications and industries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Camlocks of the Same Size Necessarily Compatible?

Not automatically. Confirm the coupling profile, dimensions and compatibility, particularly when combining existing fittings from different sources. Repeated connections between a steel Camlock and a polypropylene Camlock can accelerate wear on the plastic. We therefore recommend matching materials for both connecting parts when the application allows.

Does a Camlock Replace a Valve?

No. It provides a removable connection. A Camlock fitting alone does not control the opening or closing of liquid flow. Use a suitable valve for that function.

Can the Small Threads at the Tip of a Camlock IBC Tote Valve Be Used?

On the applicable male Camlock tote valves, these small threads are for the protective cap, not the connection. Fit a female Camlock coupler over the valve’s male Camlock end instead of screwing an NPT adapter onto it.

Need Help Identifying the Right Camlock Fitting?

Our consultation service helps you choose both ends for your installation. Send a side-view photo of the existing connections and specify the liquid and operating conditions.
