Drains and Fittings for Pallet Boxes

Drains and fittings for pallet boxes make it possible to empty a pallet box or connect it to a valve, hose or another compatible accessory. They are suitable for food-processing, agricultural and industrial applications where liquids, wash water or wet products must be discharged in a controlled manner.

Two 1 1/2 in models are available for certain MX and Dolav pallet boxes. The MXDrain is a polypropylene drain plug with straight threads. The MXBH is a PVC bulkhead fitting with female NPT threads and a plug.

The choice mainly depends on the intended use. The MXDrain is suitable for direct draining, while the MXBH makes it possible to add a compatible threaded accessory, such as a ball valve.

Comparison of MXDrain and MXBH Models

Both models include a threaded plug and two sealing gaskets. Drilling the opening and cleaning the pallet box are included with the installation.

The drain or fitting can be positioned on either the short or long side of the pallet box. The required side must be specified when ordering.

MXDrain or MXBH: Which One Should You Choose?

MXDrain for Direct Draining

The MXDrain allows the pallet box to be emptied by removing its plug. Its straight threads are designed for installing and removing the plug.

This model may be suitable when no valve or permanent line needs to be connected to the pallet box. It is made of polypropylene and has an inside diameter of 1 1/2 in.

MXBH for Connecting a Valve or Accessory

The MXBH is a PVC bulkhead fitting with female NPT threads. Its plug can be replaced with a compatible ball valve or another male-threaded accessory.

This model is suitable when the flow must be controlled or the pallet box must be connected to a hose or line. The accessory’s thread type must be verified before assembly.

Compatibility With Pallet Boxes

These drains are intended for certain solid-wall and solid-bottom pallet boxes in the MX and Dolav series.

Compatibility must be confirmed using the exact pallet box model. Ribs, reinforced areas and wall configurations can limit the available installation locations.

A pallet box from another series should not be drilled solely because its shape or dimensions appear similar.

Selection Criteria

Intended Use

For occasional draining without a permanent connection, the MXDrain may be sufficient. When a valve, hose or another accessory must be added, the MXBH with female NPT threads is generally more appropriate.

Product Being Contained

The MXDrain is made of polypropylene, while the MXBH is made of PVC. Compatibility with the contained product and cleaning agents must be verified for the fitting, gaskets, plug and pallet box.

Compatibility with the pallet box’s polyethylene construction does not automatically guarantee compatibility with every drain component.

Fitting Location

The choice between the short and long side should take into account the pallet box’s position, access to the plug and the space required to connect a valve or hose.

The fitting should also be protected against impacts during handling, storage and movement of the pallet box.

Required Flow Rate

Both models have an inside diameter of 1 1/2 in. However, the actual flow rate depends on the product, its viscosity, the amount of solids present and the connection configuration.

A 1 1/2 in diameter therefore does not guarantee the same draining time for every product.

Installation and Use

Drilling the opening and cleaning the pallet box are included with the installation. The location must be confirmed before the pallet box is prepared.

The drain is installed slightly above the bottom. A small amount of liquid may therefore remain in the pallet box after draining.

Before use, the position of the gaskets, closure of the plug and condition of the fitting should be checked. A leak test with a compatible liquid is recommended before filling the pallet box with the intended product.

The plug, threads, gaskets and inside of the fitting should be included in the facility’s cleaning procedure.
