Open-top cone-bottom tanks: access to the contents and drainage from below

Choose an open-top cone-bottom tank when your operations require full access from above to add ingredients, prepare a mixture or clean the tank. The cone bottom directs the contents downward, while the stand raises the tank to allow an outlet to be installed beneath the cone.

This configuration is particularly suited to dissolution, settling and product changes requiring frequent washing. For thick, viscous liquids or liquids containing sediment, we also validate their behaviour during drainage. The conical shape promotes drainage but does not, on its own, guarantee drainage without residue.

Compare configurations and equipment

The open-top cone-bottom tanks offered in this category include a steel stand. The drain and lid are optional and sold separately. These components must therefore be planned according to your installation, rather than assuming the tank arrives ready to connect. The tank has no level graduations.

The tanks are made of UV-treated high-density polyethylene. For an outdoor installation, the painted steel stand must also be considered, as it can rust over time. The tank must remain on its designated stand to avoid inappropriate pressure points on the walls.

Plan the outlet before ordering

An important point: a cone bottom does not mean a drain is already installed. At Agrico, we can prepare connections to suit your application. We validate their location before ordering, taking the liquid, piping and required access into account.

Polypropylene or PVC bulkhead fittings and stainless steel bolted fittings offer different possibilities, to be selected according to the project requirements.

To control drainage, plan for a compatible ball valve. If the piping must change direction, we offer elbow fittings to make assembly easier, depending on the available clearance. A flexible connection may also require liquid transfer or suction hoses.

We check the space occupied by all accessories beneath the tank and the support required for the piping. The tank height alone is not enough to validate the installation.

Choose according to the liquid and your operations

Before recommending a tank, we need to know the product, its concentration, its specific gravity, its temperature and the planned cleaning. Compatibility must be validated for the tank, fittings, gaskets and valve.

The configurations shown have a specific gravity rating of 1.5. This value does not confirm compatibility with all chemicals or all operating temperatures.

For food processing, the resin used in the products shown complies with FDA requirements for food contact. This compliance does not replace validation of the process and accessories. These tanks are intended for stationary, above-ground use without pressurization.

If access through a screw-on lid is sufficient, consider closed-top cone-bottom tanks instead. If your priority is access from above rather than an outlet beneath a cone, compare open-top vertical tanks.

Frequently asked questions

Is the drain included?

No. For the tanks shown in this category, the drain is optional. Specify your drainage requirements before ordering so the necessary connection and accessories can be planned.

Can a cover be added?

Yes. A dust cover or a cover with two thirds welded in place and the remaining third hinged is offered separately, depending on the configuration. We select the cover according to the protection needed for the contents and the access required.

Does the open top allow a mixer to be installed?

Yes. The opening provides access for welding a mixer support onto the tank. However, this does not mean the tank or its rim can support every type of mixer. Clamp-mounted mixers can be secured to the mixer support welded to the tank, rather than directly to the rim. Have the assembly and its support validated before installation.
