Small plastic pallets for displays, deliveries and floor storage

A small plastic pallet can be much more practical than a standard 40" x 48" pallet when boxes or products need to be raised off the floor in a limited space. In a store, warehouse or preparation area, it can be used to create a small display, keep merchandise off the floor or make cleaning around products easier.

The pallets in this category are available in 12" x 12", 24" x 48" and 30" x 42" sizes. They do not all serve the same purpose. Some models are designed primarily as floor supports, while others can also be used for deliveries, distribution and material handling on forks.

Before choosing a pallet based only on its dimensions, consider the weight it must support, how it will be moved, the available space and whether the pallets need to nest when empty.

A smaller pallet does not mean the same load capacity. A pallet used only as a floor display does not require the same characteristics as a pallet that must be lifted with a forklift or pallet jack.

The capacities shown are based on an evenly distributed load and may vary depending on actual operating conditions. A capacity listed as “Not specified” should not be interpreted as zero capacity. It simply means that the model should not be selected for that type of use without proper validation.

Which small plastic pallet should you choose?

12" x 12": for a small display or a few boxes

The 12" x 12" format is designed to take up very little space. It is mainly used in aisle-end displays, under boxes or in other areas where merchandise should not be placed directly on the floor.

The APL121204BR measures only 12" x 12" x 4", weighs 7 lb and has a floor load capacity of 500 lb when the load is evenly distributed. Its vented deck has openings between the rails, keeping products raised while maintaining a compact size that can easily be handled by hand.

No fork or rack capacity is specified for this model. It should therefore be considered primarily as a floor display or floor-storage support, rather than as a small version of an industrial pallet intended for forklift handling.

24" x 48": for floor storage in a narrower space

The HX2448-BK maintains a 48" length while its 24" width allows it to fit in areas where a standard 40" x 48" pallet would occupy too much space. It has a vented deck and a listed floor capacity of 1,500 lb.

This model is available while supplies last. No fork or rack capacity is currently specified on its product page. It should therefore be selected according to its actual intended use rather than simply because its dimensions resemble a half-size pallet.

30" x 42": for deliveries, distribution and retail applications

The HP3042-BK serves a different purpose. At 30" wide, it can pass through a standard doorway while providing enough deck area to transport and display multiple products.

Its solid deck includes a small rim that helps reduce product movement. Its nine-leg base is nestable, reducing the space required for empty pallets. The model can be accessed from all four sides with a forklift and can also be used with an appropriately sized narrow pallet jack.

Its listed capacity is 2,000 lb on forks and 10,000 lb on the floor when the load is evenly distributed. This makes it more suitable when a small pallet must actually be used as part of a material handling and delivery process.

Why use a pallet instead of placing boxes directly on the floor?

In a store, warehouse or preparation area, placing boxes or products directly on the floor can make daily operations more difficult. A small pallet creates physical separation between the merchandise and the floor without taking up the space of a standard pallet.

Depending on the application, this can help:

  • Make floor cleaning around and beneath merchandise easier.
  • Reduce direct contact between boxes and a wet or dirty floor.
  • Create a low-profile display in an aisle end or small retail space.
  • Clearly define the location of products.
  • Allow the load to be moved directly, when using a model designed for material handling, instead of transferring it onto another pallet.

Floor display or actual material handling pallet?

This is probably the most important distinction in this category.

If the pallet will simply remain on the floor and support a few boxes, floor capacity and dimensions may be the main criteria. If it must later be moved with a pallet jack or forklift, the fork capacity, entry configuration and dimensions of the handling equipment must also be checked.

A high floor capacity does not guarantee an equivalent capacity when the pallet is lifted. The support conditions change completely when the load is carried on forks.

For heavier loads, repeated warehouse use or pallet-racking applications, see our industrial plastic pallets.

Vented deck or solid deck?

Vented deck

A vented deck contains openings in the pallet surface. It can be suitable for many display and floor-storage applications when the size and shape of the boxes provide adequate support.

However, make sure that the feet, boxes or containers placed on the pallet cannot sink into the openings or become unstable.

Solid deck with rim

A solid deck provides continuous support beneath the load. On the HP3042-BK, a small rim also helps limit movement of the products during handling.

This type of surface can be advantageous for smaller products or when the loaded pallet must move through a distribution or delivery process.

Frequently asked questions about small plastic pallets

What is a display pallet?

A display pallet is a small pallet or support used to keep products above the floor, often in a store, aisle-end display, retail area or other confined space. Depending on the model, it may be used only as a floor support or may also be suitable for transportation and material handling.

What is the smallest pallet available?

The smallest model currently shown in this category measures 12" x 12" x 4". It is designed mainly to support small displays or boxes without requiring a much larger standard pallet.

Can a small pallet be moved with a pallet jack?

Only if the model has the appropriate configuration and capacity. The HP3042-BK, for example, can be used with an appropriately sized narrow pallet jack. Models without a specified fork capacity should not be used this way without validation.

Which small pallet can fit through a doorway?

The HP3042-BK is 30" wide and is designed to fit through a standard doorway. The total width of the load placed on the pallet must also be considered, not just the width of the pallet itself.

Can a small plastic pallet be used in a freezer?

It depends on the model and the actual temperature. The temperature ranges are not identical for all three pallets in this category. The product specifications should therefore be checked rather than assuming that every small pallet is suitable for the same freezer temperature.

Can a display pallet be used in pallet racking?

The models shown here do not have a published rack capacity. They should therefore not be considered rackable pallets. For pallet racking, select a pallet with a rack capacity specifically established for the configuration being used.

Looking for a small pallet for a specific space?

Dimensions are only one part of the decision. Before choosing a pallet, also consider the load weight, how it will be moved, the type of deck required and the available space in your store, warehouse or vehicle.

If you are unsure whether you need a simple display support or a pallet designed for actual material handling, contact Agrico Plastics. We can help you eliminate models that are not suitable for your application before you purchase.
