To connect a fire hydrant or fire hose to equipment with an NPT connection, we use an adapter designed to join the two thread types. These fittings can connect a 2-1/2" hose to a tank fitting of a different diameter.
Our adapters are made of aluminum and sold individually. They complement our industrial hose range. We select them based on the thread type, diameter and male or female connection of the parts being joined.
The thread on the fire hoses we offer differs from the NPT thread commonly used on equipment and tank fittings. The two connections may also have different diameters.
The adapter provides this transition. It does more than change from a larger diameter to a smaller one: it also joins two different thread types.
This is a point to plan for in tank applications. A hose and tank outlet do not necessarily connect directly, even if their sizes seem close.
These adapters have a 2-1/2" female connection on the hydrant or hose side and a male NPT connection at the other end.
Available NPT diameters are 1-1/2", 2" and 3". This allows a male fire connection to be joined to a female NPT connection on the equipment.
These adapters have a 2-1/2" male connection on the hose side and a male NPT connection at the other end.
They are offered with a 2" or 3" NPT connection. Consider this configuration when the hose end being connected is female.
The same diameters are not available in both configurations. The 1-1/2" NPT connection is offered with a female fire connection; the 2" and 3" NPT connections are offered with either a male or female fire connection.
We therefore check both ends before choosing, rather than ordering based only on the tank connection diameter.
All these adapters have a 2-1/2" end on the hydrant or fire hose side. The other end has a male NPT thread and screws into a female NPT connection of the same diameter.
| Hydrant or hose side connection | Hydrant or hose side diameter (in) | Equipment side connection | Equipment side diameter (in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Female | 2-1/2 | Male NPT | 1-1/2 |
| Female | 2-1/2 | Male NPT | 2 |
| Female | 2-1/2 | Male NPT | 3 |
| Male | 2-1/2 | Male NPT | 2 |
| Male | 2-1/2 | Male NPT | 3 |
If your hose end is male, choose an adapter with a female hose side connection. If it is female, choose a male adapter. On the tank side, the NPT diameter must match the existing female connection.
To join the hose to a 2" or 3" female NPT connection on the tank, we select an adapter with the matching NPT diameter.
The choice of a male or female connection on the hose side depends on the end being used. Our fire hoses already include one male and one female end fitting; adapters are sold separately.
If the installation includes ball valves or bulkhead fittings, we also consider their connections and operating limits.
A threaded fitting is not a Camlock quick connection. If your equipment uses Camlock fittings, we need to check the parts required for the transition.
Our assembled discharge hoses, for example, already have Camlock end fittings. Their connections differ from those on threaded fire hoses.
The fittings shown here have threaded ends. For a connection directly inside a flexible hose, consider hose barb adapters instead, then have the configuration assessed.
The diameter and thread must match the existing parts. For a fire hydrant, we confirm the actual connection: its location in Quebec alone does not guarantee that every fitting will be suitable.
Compatibility must also account for the aluminum and the liquid being carried. We do not assume that an adapter is suitable for a chemical simply because it can be screwed onto the equipment.
Pressure and temperature must be assessed for the complete circuit. The hose’s allowable pressure does not automatically establish that of the adapter or tank.
For water intended for human consumption, we check every component in contact with the water, including fittings associated with potable water hoses.
Yes, with the appropriate adapter. We also confirm whether the hose end being connected is male or female.
No. The side intended for the hydrant or fire hose has a different thread from the NPT side intended for the equipment.
No. They are sold separately, based on the connections being joined.
Specify the diameter, thread type and male or female connection of both parts being joined, along with the intended application.
