Pickup truck tanks: choose according to the truck bed and the liquid to be transported

Pickup truck tanks are designed to transport liquids in a compatible pickup truck bed. Their shape widens above the wheel wells to make use of this space, while their low profile helps maintain rear visibility.

The essential point: tanks in this category require support from the truck bed, including the wheel wells. They cannot be filled or used on the ground or on a trailer. If you plan these uses, consider our free-standing horizontal tanks instead.

Check the installation before choosing the capacity

A tank that fits in the truck bed is not necessarily suitable for the truck. We need to check the dimensions, supporting surfaces and available payload capacity, accounting for the liquid, tank and other equipment.

Before ordering, record:

• The usable length and width of the truck bed.
• The space between the wheel wells and their height.
• The presence of a bed liner, toolbox or other obstacles.
• The available payload capacity according to your vehicle specifications.
• Access to the lid and drain after installation.

Do not choose solely according to the desired volume. The tank must be properly supported and secured, and the vehicle must be able to carry the intended load.

Compare usage configurations

The difference goes beyond shape. A pickup truck tank depends on the support provided by the truck. A different configuration should therefore be selected before purchasing if you want to move the tank between several installations.

Potable water, maple sap and other liquids

The tanks offered are made of UV-treated HDPE, using material that complies with FDA requirements for contact with potable water. Their translucent walls allow the liquid level to be seen.

They can be considered for agricultural and maple syrup production needs, water supply or certain applications related to food processing. However, the use must be validated according to the liquid and hygiene requirements.

The versions listed have a nominal specific gravity rating of 1.5 at 20 °C. This rating alone does not confirm compatibility with a product: its composition, concentration and actual operating temperature must also be considered. These tanks are not UN-approved for transporting dangerous goods and cannot be pressurized.

Plan filling and draining

The tanks offered include a vented lid and a polypropylene drain with female NPT threads. Having a drain does not mean that all the accessories needed for your installation are included.

We select ball valves according to the connection and liquid. Camlock fittings can facilitate transfer connections when their configuration suits the installation.

For drinking water, consider our potable water hoses. For other applications, liquid suction and discharge hoses must be selected according to the liquid and transfer method.

If an additional connection is needed, have the location and choice of bulkhead fittings validated before ordering. Access to the connections must remain practical once the tank is installed.
