Cart for 40×48 in Pallet Boxes

The steel pallet box cart makes it possible to move a compatible pallet box within a facility without using a forklift for every movement. It is particularly suitable for production, storage, order preparation and material-handling areas where pallet boxes must regularly circulate between different workstations.

The MX4048C model is designed to accommodate certain nominal 40×48 in MX and Dolav pallet boxes. Its painted steel frame measures 41×49 in to support the base of the pallet box. It is equipped with four 4 in swivel casters and has a load capacity of 1,500 lb.

This cart is a mobile base separate from the pallet box. It should not be confused with pallet boxes on casters, whose casters are installed directly under the pallet box.

Use a Separate Mobile Base

The cart is independent of the pallet box. This configuration makes it possible to keep pallet boxes stationary for storage or stacking and use a mobile base when movement across the floor is required.

However, the exact pallet box model must be compatible with the cart frame. A pallet box described as measuring 40×48 in is not automatically compatible.

Load Capacity and Moving Effort

The cart has a load capacity of 1,500 lb when the weight is evenly distributed. This value represents the stated structural capacity. It does not mean that a 1,500 lb load can be moved manually without effort or risk.

The effort required to start, steer and stop the cart depends in particular on:

• The actual weight of the pallet box and its contents;
• The distribution of the load;
• The condition and diameter of the casters;
• The type of flooring;
• The presence of joints, thresholds or drains;
• The slope of the route;
• The distance and frequency of movement.

The 4 in casters are suitable for a clean, clear, firm and level surface. Cracks, floor joints, thresholds, drains, debris and changes in floor level can block a caster or destabilize the load.

Before integrating the cart into operations, the entire intended route should be examined. Particular attention should be paid to narrow passages, doors, intersections, slopes and areas where employees or other material-handling equipment circulate.

A heavy load should not be moved on a slope without an appropriate control method. No brakes are specified for the MX4048C model. A separate method of securing the cart may therefore be required depending on the application.

Use in Food-Processing or Wet Environments

The cart is made of painted steel. The pallet box remains the container that holds the products. The cart should not be considered a food-contact surface.

In a food-processing facility, verify whether the painted steel, casters and other components are suitable for the washing procedures, humidity and cleaning products being used.

Repeated exposure to water, chemicals or impacts can damage the paint and expose the metal. The cart should be inspected regularly for flaking paint, corrosion, damaged welds or deteriorated casters.

Separate Cart or Pallet Box on Casters?
