Plastic Lids for Pallet Boxes

Pallet box lids help protect contents from dust, debris and accidental contact during storage, handling or transportation. They are available for several pallet box series used in agriculture, food processing, warehouses and various industrial environments.

Each lid must be selected according to the exact series and model of the pallet box. Identical nominal dimensions do not guarantee compatibility: the upper rim, corners, support profile and stacking surface may vary from one series to another.

Compatible Pallet Box Series and Sizes

Lids are available in several sizes and colours depending on the pallet box series.

Compatible SeriesNominal Dimensions (in)Colours Available by Model
MX and MXV40×48Blue, white, yellow or grey
MX and MXV48×48White
PE87540×48Blue, grey, red or yellow
PE105042×48Blue, grey, red or yellow
PE66041×49Blue, grey, red or yellow
Dolav100040×48White
Dolav140045×51White
Dolav80032×48White
TS480042×48White, blue or grey
TS490044×44White, blue or grey
KX and KXV40×48White
CPX318, CPX327, CPX332 and CPX33543×48Blue

The dimensions shown correspond to the nominal pallet box sizes. The actual outside dimensions of the lid may be slightly larger so that it properly covers the rim of the pallet box.

A Lid Designed for the Correct Series

Pallet box lids are not universal. Several series may share a nominal size of 40×48 inches while requiring completely different lids. A lid designed for a PE875 pallet box should therefore not automatically be replaced with an MX, Dolav1000 or KX lid of the same nominal size.

Before selecting a lid, verify:

  • The pallet box model number or series;
  • The outside dimensions of the upper rim;
  • The shape of the corners and support profile;
  • The presence of a retaining system or straps;
  • The intended stacking configuration;
  • The requirements associated with the contents and industry.

This verification is also important when replacing a damaged or missing lid on a pallet box that is already in service.

Protecting Contents During Operations

A compatible lid helps protect products, ingredients, parts or bulk materials during the different handling stages. It reduces direct exposure to dust, debris and accidental contact in storage or production areas.

However, a lid does not automatically make the pallet box watertight, airtight or suitable for transporting liquids. The pallet box, lid, drains and other accessories must be selected according to the material being contained and the operating conditions.

For food applications, select a pallet box and lid made from materials suitable for food contact. This compatibility must be confirmed for the exact model and intended application.

Stacking with a Lid

Some lids are designed to preserve the pallet box stacking configuration. When correctly installed, a compatible lid fits the upper profile of the pallet box and allows the base of the next box to rest on the intended support areas.

The presence of a lid does not, by itself, guarantee that a pallet box can be stacked. Stacking capacity depends on factors including:

  • The pallet box model;
  • The lid being used;
  • The actual weight of the contents;
  • The height of the stack;
  • The distribution of the load;
  • The temperature;
  • The condition of the pallet box and lid;
  • The recommendations applicable to the model.

Solid-wall and solid-bottom pallet boxes, vented-wall and vented-bottom pallet boxes and double-wall insulated pallet boxes do not necessarily use the same lids or stacking interfaces.

Standard Lids or Lids with a Retaining System

The installation method varies by model. Some lids simply rest on the upper profile of the pallet box, while others include a retaining system such as rubber straps.

The right choice depends on the pallet box series, how frequently it is opened, the handling method and the required level of retention. However, a strap does not turn the lid into a watertight closure and does not replace a complete application assessment.

Do not drill, cut or modify a lid without assessing the effects on its strength, fit and ability to support another pallet box in a stacked configuration.

Colours for Operational Identification

Depending on the series, lids may be available in white, blue, grey, red or yellow. Using different colours can help with:

  • Product identification;
  • Material separation;
  • Production area organization;
  • Lot identification;
  • Allergen management;
  • Separation of food and industrial operations.

Colour availability varies by lid model. The colour should therefore be selected only after compatibility with the pallet box has been confirmed.

Lid Maintenance and Inspection

The lid and upper rim of the pallet box must be clean before closing. Residue on the contact surfaces may prevent the lid from sitting correctly or create instability during stacking.

Regular inspection helps identify:

  • Cracks;
  • Deformation;
  • Damaged corners;
  • Wear on the support profile;
  • Damaged or missing straps;
  • A lid that no longer sits evenly on the pallet box.

A warped, cracked or poorly fitting lid should be replaced. Never force a lid that does not match the pallet box profile.

How to Choose the Right Pallet Box Lid

Start by locating the model number on the pallet box. This information is more reliable than the general dimensions of the box. Then verify the size, retaining method, desired colour and operating conditions.

If the model number is no longer visible, take pictures of the entire pallet box, upper rim, corners, base and any remaining markings. Also measure the outside width and length at their widest points.

Our technical support service can help identify your pallet box series and select a lid compatible with your equipment.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pallet Box Lids

Are pallet box lids universal?

No. The lid must match the exact series and model of the pallet box. Two pallet boxes with the same nominal dimensions may require different lid profiles.

Are all 40×48-inch lids interchangeable?

No. The MX, PE875, Dolav1000 and KX series may all be associated with a nominal size of 40×48 inches, but their lids are not necessarily interchangeable.

Does the lid make the pallet box watertight?

No. A standard lid protects the top of the contents, but it does not automatically create a watertight or airtight closure.

Can pallet boxes be stacked with their lids?

Yes, when the pallet box and lid are designed to be used together and the model’s stacking limits are respected. The weight of the contents, load stability and condition of the equipment must also be verified.

Are the lids sold separately?

Yes. The lids in this category are sold as accessories or replacement parts. The pallet box is not included with the lid.

Can only the lid of a pallet box be replaced?

Yes, provided that the exact pallet box series is identified and the corresponding lid is selected. A lid should be replaced when it is cracked, warped, difficult to install or unable to rest evenly on the rim.

Are lids available for removable-wall pallet boxes?

Removable-wall pallet boxes use their own panel, base and lid configurations. Components designed for the specific model must be selected.

How can compatibility be confirmed before ordering?

Provide the pallet box model number, its outside dimensions and, if possible, pictures of the upper rim and corners. This information makes it possible to confirm compatibility before ordering.
