Removable-Wall and Stackable Plastic Pallet Boxes

Removable-wall pallet boxes are designed for handling, storing and transporting food, agricultural or industrial products while reducing the space required for empty returns. They are particularly well suited to food processing companies, agricultural producers, warehouses and distribution centres, and industrial operations.

KX and KXV series models consist of a pallet and fully removable walls. Once the walls are removed, one empty box can hold the walls of four additional boxes. The five pallets can then be stacked into a single unit, saving up to 40% of floor or truck space, depending on the configuration.

The boxes are made of injection-moulded high-density polyethylene treated for UV resistance. They can be used indoors or outdoors and cleaned with a pressure washer. The walls and pallet can be replaced separately if a component is damaged.

The technical data sheets indicate compliance with USDA requirements for food contact and a design that can be incorporated into HACCP programs. Compatibility with the product being handled, cleaning agents and sanitation procedures must nevertheless be confirmed for each application.

Comparison of KX and KXV Models

All four models have a 40 in × 48 in base. They differ mainly in height, volume and wall type.

The 28-inch models include four removable walls and can be stacked up to six boxes high, with or without a lid, according to their technical data sheets. The 50-inch models include eight removable panels and can be stacked up to three boxes high.

Why Choose a Removable-Wall Pallet Box?

Reduce Space Requirements for Empty Returns

When the boxes are no longer in use, their walls can be removed and placed inside an empty box. One box can hold the walls of four additional boxes, while the five pallets are combined into a single stack.

This consolidation frees up warehouse space and reduces the volume required for return transportation. It is particularly suitable for reusable loops between suppliers, plants, warehouses and distribution centres.

Improve Access to the Contents

The walls can be removed to make loading and unloading easier. Panels can also be folded down to create a temporary access door to the contents.

This feature is useful when employees need to reach parts or products at the bottom of the box without completely dismantling the structure.

Replace Damaged Components

The pallet and walls are separate components. If a wall is damaged, it can be replaced without necessarily replacing the entire box.

Each box must nevertheless be inspected regularly. A cracked wall, damaged fastener or deformed pallet can compromise stability, load capacity or stacking safety.

Simplify Handling

All four models provide four-way forklift access and two-way pallet jack access. This configuration facilitates their integration into warehouses, production areas and loading docks.

The equipment used must be compatible with the base dimensions, the total weight of the box and the load’s centre of gravity.

Solid or Vented Walls?

KX Models with Solid Walls

KX404828 and KX404850 models have solid walls and a solid bottom. They are suitable for parts, ingredients and products that require better protection from dust, debris and surrounding contaminants.

Their smooth interior surfaces also facilitate cleaning. However, these boxes should not be used to contain liquids unless their compatibility and watertightness have first been confirmed.

KXV Models with Vented Walls

KXV404828 and KXV404850 models have vented walls that promote airflow and water drainage.

They can be used for products requiring ventilation, washing, draining or more efficient cooling. Product dimensions must nevertheless be compatible with the openings to prevent items from passing through the walls.

How to Choose the Right Model

Required Volume

The 28-inch models provide a volume of 566 litres. Their lower height makes manual access to the contents easier and may be suitable for workstations where employees regularly need to reach the bottom of the box.

The 50-inch models provide a volume of 1,230 litres. They allow more product to be transported within the same footprint, but their greater depth can make manual access more difficult.

Product Weight

All four models have a stated load capacity of 1,320 lb. Capacity in litres does not, however, determine the actual weight the box will carry.

A dense product may reach the box’s load capacity before the box is completely full. The total weight of the contents must be calculated, and its distribution within the box must be considered.

Stacking Height

The 28-inch models can be stacked up to six high, with or without a lid. The 50-inch models can be stacked up to three high.

For regular transportation, the manufacturer shows a configuration of three full boxes stacked on top of one another. A greater stacking capability in a warehouse does not automatically mean that the same configuration can be used during transportation.

The safe stacking height must be determined according to the model, load, surface stability, temperature and anticipated movement.

Operating Conditions

The technical data sheets indicate an operating temperature range of -28 °C to 49 °C. This range does not automatically guarantee compatibility with every product, process or environment.

The temperature of the contents, exposure time, impacts, chemicals and cleaning agents must be evaluated before use.

Disassembly and Reassembly

The box is designed so that one person can disassemble it easily. Before removing the walls, the box must be empty, stable and placed on a level surface.

The panels, fasteners and connection points must be inspected before each reassembly. All components must be properly engaged before the box is filled, handled or stacked.

Once disassembled, five boxes can be consolidated into a single stack. The walls must be positioned securely to prevent movement during handling or transportation.

What Is the Difference Between a Removable-Wall Box and a Nestable Box?

A removable-wall box has straight walls that can be detached from the pallet. A nestable box retains its walls, but their sloped shape allows empty boxes to fit inside one another.

Yes. The models shown provide two-way pallet jack access and four-way forklift access.

How Do I Choose Between Solid and Vented Walls?
