Lids for plastic containers: choose the container according to the closure you need

Each container has its own matching lid, offered on its detailed product page. You do not choose between several lid types for the same container: the closure depends on the container selected.

If you need a snap-on lid, a dust cover or a clear lid, specify this from the start. We then select the container and its lid as a compatible set. This does not mean that the lid is included in the container’s price.

The different types of lids

Snap-on lid

A snap-on lid fastens onto the rim of the container it is designed for. Consider this configuration when you want a closure that stays secured to the container rather than a lid that simply rests on top.

Its advantage is that it stays secured to the compatible container. However, the closure must be released to access the contents, so opening frequency should be considered when choosing.

Consider snap-on lids for food-grade containers. A snap-on closure does not automatically mean that it is airtight or liquid-tight.

Dust cover

A dust cover covers the top of the container. It meets a covering need when the application does not require an airtight closure.

Its advantage is easy access to the contents. Its limitation is the level of closure: it should not be considered protection against leaks or assumed to stay in place under all transport conditions.

Dust covers for industrial containers are designed for specific container families. If this type of cover meets your needs, we select the matching container.

Clear lid

A clear lid lets you see the contents without opening the container. This is useful when you want to identify food or visually check what remains inside.

However, it does not conceal the contents. Transparency does not determine the closure type either: the clear lids for food containers presented here are snap-on lids.

We consider visibility, closure and material compatibility with the intended use separately.

Coloured lid

A coloured lid can serve as a visual reference to distinguish contents or work areas. However, it conceals more of the contents than a clear lid.

Available colours depend on the container and its matching lid. If your operations use colour coding, specify this before selecting containers. Colour alone does not confirm that equipment is suitable for food contact.

For food and ingredients

For food-grade containers with solid walls and bottoms, specify whether you need to cover the contents temporarily, open the container frequently or see the ingredients without removing the lid.

In a food processing facility, we also check the container and lid materials, contents temperature and cleaning conditions. The closure you need must be compatible with these requirements.

For parts and material handling

For straight-wall industrial containers, the choice depends on access to parts, the covering required and the planned handling operations.

In warehouses and distribution centres, specify whether containers will be stacked, moved on container dollies or opened at several workstations. We confirm the suitability of the container and lid together for these operations.

If you want the lid to remain attached to the container, choose attached-lid containers from the start. This configuration avoids managing a removable lid separately, but requires space to open the lid sections.

Container identification can complement your visual references when colour is not enough to distinguish containers.

Can a different lid type be selected for the same container?

No. Each container uses the lid designed for it. If you require a particular closure type, you need to choose the corresponding container from the start.

Is a snap-on lid airtight?

No, because it does not have a sealing gasket. If your application requires an airtight or liquid-tight closure, specify this requirement before selecting the set.
