Single- and double-jacket fire hoses

When choosing a fire hose, we check the working pressure, handling conditions and thread type of the equipment being connected. Our hoses are available in a 2-1/2" diameter, in 50- or 100-foot lengths, with a single or double jacket.

This range of industrial hoses includes threaded aluminum fittings for fire hydrant connections in Quebec. Each hose has a female swivel fitting at one end and a fixed male fitting at the other. Before ordering, we confirm that these connections match your installation.

Single or double jacket: what is the difference?

Single jacket: for lighter handling

The single-jacket hose has a woven synthetic outer jacket and a black rubber inner lining. Its construction makes it lighter to handle than the double-jacket hose.

The single-jacket configurations offered have a working pressure of 150 psi. We consider them when operating conditions protect the outer jacket: they are not suitable for repeated dragging or harsh environments.

Double jacket: for more demanding conditions

The double-jacket hose has an additional layer of synthetic fabric. This construction provides greater resistance for more demanding applications, including industrial washing, once the installation has been assessed.

The double-jacket configurations offered have a working pressure of 300 psi. However, this additional resistance comes with greater weight. We account for how often the hose is moved and how it will be handled when wet.

Compare the available configurations

Assemblies are sold individually with their end fittings already installed. We select the length based on the actual route between equipment, without assuming that a longer hose will be easier to move.

The thread must match the hydrant

A 2-1/2" diameter alone does not confirm that a hose will connect to a fire hydrant. Threads can vary by region and equipment. We therefore check the existing connection type before purchase.

Connect the 2-1/2" hose to the tank’s NPT fitting

The fire hose thread differs from the NPT thread commonly used on tanks. An adapter connects the 2-1/2" hose to a 2" or 3" female NPT connection on the tank.

Our fire hydrant adapters are available with a male or female connection on the hose side and a male NPT connection on the tank side.

We select the adapter based on the hose end being connected and the diameter of the tank connection. These accessories are sold separately.

Working pressure: use the right value

Working pressure and test pressure are two different values. To select a hose for normal operating conditions, we use the working pressure.

A higher test pressure must therefore not be used as the allowable operating pressure. The limits of fittings and other circuit components must also be respected.

In tank applications, the hose’s pressure rating does not establish that of the entire installation. Ball valves and bulkhead fittings must be assessed according to their own specifications.

Choose the range for the application

For a circuit using Camlock fittings, we check the necessary adapters: these connections do not directly replace the fire hose’s threaded end fittings.

If the need is simply to discharge water at a pump outlet, discharge hoses or assembled discharge hoses can be assessed.

For suction of a non-food liquid, consider liquid suction and discharge hoses instead. For water intended for human consumption, we start with potable water hoses, then assess the operating conditions.

Frequently asked questions

Is a double jacket always the best choice?

No. It provides greater resistance and a higher working pressure in this range, but it is heavier. We choose based on actual conditions and handling needs.

Do these hoses connect to every hydrant in Quebec?

The hydrant thread must be confirmed. Its diameter and location alone do not guarantee a matching connection.

Are adapters included?

The male and female end fittings are already installed on the hose. Adapters needed to connect a different connection type are sold separately.
